About the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation

Our calorie calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is considered one of the most accurate methods for calculating BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). This equation takes into account your age, gender, weight, and height to determine how many calories your body burns at rest.

The total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) is then calculated by multiplying your BMR by an activity factor that corresponds to your lifestyle. Weight loss and gain targets assume a safe rate of 1 pound per week, which requires a 500-calorie daily deficit or surplus respectively.
